Luigi Bedin, aka Rolly, offers PhD positions in Physic-Astronomy @ University of PADOVA and @ University of FERRARA for a 3 (max 4) years duration to young scientists willing to learn and publish exiting results. Various topics: stellar populations / white dwarfs / brown dwarfs / low main sequence stars / exo-planets / binaries and more.

Observational projects and techniques: Astrometry/Photometry/Spectroscopy

Theoretical projects: Stellar kinematics and dynamics, stellar atmospheres of brown dwarfs, white dwarfs, and preparatory studies for JWST

Bedin is Principal Investigator (PI) of three large programs (and of several other normal size projects) with Hubble Space Telescope (HST, hundreds of orbits in total) and Co-Investigator in other HST programs (among which other 3 large programs).

Two of these HST large programs are multy-cycles (GO-15491, GO-15096, GO-14662, GO-14118) and were partially financed with grant PRIN-MIUR-2017 with Bedin as National Coordinator (approved April 2019, ranking, document, program ID: PRIN-MIUR ID 2017Z2HSMF. The program was then fully funded by a PRIN-INAF last February 2021.

Bedin wa recently awarded with James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) observing time: Program GO-1979 (PI: Bedin), https://www.stsci.edu/jwst/science-execution/program-information

to study the faintest and coolest stars in the two closest globular clusters, planning to collect the first observations in late 2023 (… assuming JWST will be working).

Note:

- 75% of the HST data were already collected so far, and the remaining 25% has been postponed to be collected after August 2021 to increase the temporal base-line (...HST’s health permitting).

- PhD, possibility of a training period up to 1.5yr abroad, staging for up to 1.5yr@: USA-STScI/UCSD/Tucson,UK-JLMU

NOW OPENED: 1 PhD fellowship position @ Univ. of Ferrara, Italy, PhD working @ the Astronomical Observatory of Padova, Italy

Selection application forms, together with all documents required, must be submitted electronically using only the procedure available on the platform PICA before July 23th, 2021, h. 23:59 (Italian time).

"There is surely nothing other than the single purpose of the present moment. A man's whole life is a succession of moment after moment. If one fully understands the present moment, there will be nothing else to do, and nothing else to pursue. Live being true to the single purpose of the moment." (taken from Hagakure by Yamamoto Tsunetomo) 葉隠
