WELCOME RECEPTION
June 15, 18.00-20.00

The Conference Welcome Reception will be held on June 15 at 18.00 at La Specola (Astronomical Observatory of Padua, Vicolo dell'Osservatorio 5, Padua. Check the map in the conference website.).

A private bus service leaving at 17:00 from your hotels in Abano (Hotel Europa, Park Hotel, Excelsior and Ariston Molino) will be organized to take you to La Specola. Early registration of participants will take place during the Welcome Reception.

For those arriving late: registration will be possible also on Wednesday 16 from 08:45 to 09:15 at Palazzo del Bo (conference desk).

A guided tour to La Specola will be organized. Reservations will be made on site.

Private shuttles buses leaving at 20:00 will take you back to your hotels in Abano.

All transfers will be made by hostesses.


CONGRESS INFORMATION

Conference Location.
All scientific sessions of the conference will take place at:

Conference Language.
English will be used for all presentations and printed matter.

Modes of presentation.
-Transparency (overhead) projection.
-Slide projection (MS PowerPoint). Since speakers are invited to use the PC laptop provided by the LOC, they should provide the LOC with a CD containing the talk in .ppt or .pdf format before the beginning of the morning session. Speakers are welcome to send their presentation in advance via anonymous ftp on ftp.pd.astro.it. Put the files in the directory: incoming/sn1604 (file's name should be the speaker's name) with a message to sn1604@pd.astro.it to let know the LOC about it.
-Poster. These will be hung on 17-18-19 June. Their size should be 70 cm x 100 cm.

Internet point.
-Three PCs connected to Internet will be available at the conference building on 17-18-19 June.
-Laptop connection

Conference Proceedings.
The Conference Proceedings including oral and poster contributions will be published by American Society of The Pacific. Instructions for the authors will be given during the Conference.


CONFERENCE VENUE

June 16

The "1604-2004 Supernovae Conference" will be held at Palazzo del Bo, the historical seat of the University in the centre of Padua.

Private buses leaving at 8:00 will take you from your hotels in Abano to the Conference venue and will take you back at the end of daily sessions. They will leave from Piazza Garibaldi (Padua) at about 18:45. Participants hosted in Padua can reach the conference Venue on foot.

The Conference will take place in the "Aula Magna".

Coffee breaks will be served in the "Sala Basilica", close to the "Aula Magna". Lunch: participants will be free to choose among the restaurants and cafes of the historical Centre of Padua.

June 17-18-19

The Conference will be held in the "Aula Nievo".

Shuttle buses: please see instructions above.

Participants hosted in Padua can reach the conference Venue on foot.

Coffee breaks will be organized at the "Bar Antenore", easily reachable on foot. The Poster Session and Internet Point will be organized in "Aula E", next to "Aula Nievo". Lunch: participants will be free to choose among the restaurants and cafés of the historical Centre of Padua.

The Public Conference "Padova, Galileo e le Stelle Nuove" will take place at:

Speakers: W. Shea (Galilean Chair of History of Science at Padua University) and P. Benvenuti (Head of the National Institute of Astrophysics - INAF).
Presentations will be in Italian.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Currency / Banks/ Credit Cards.
The local currency is EURO. There are several banks located around the conference site. Money can also be exchanged at the airport and the main railway station. Credit cards are generally accepted by hotels, restaurants and most department stores. However, smaller shops tend to prefer cash.

Restaurants and cafes.
There are many restaurants and cafés in the neighbourhood of the conference site. We will provide you with a list of restaurants and cafés located near the congress site at the time of registration.

Shopping Hours.
Shops are usually open from 09:30 to 12:30 and from 15:30 to 19:30 (also on Saturday). On Sunday some shops are open. On Monday morning, all shops are closed.

Climate.
In general, the weather in Padua is sunny and hot in June. The average maximum temperature is between 24°C and 27°C and the minimum is between 14°C and 17°C. Average air humidity is ~70%.

TRANSPORTATION AND TRAVEL

Transportation from Abano
A shuttle bus will take participants from their hotels to the Conference venue every morning at 8:00 and back in the evening at 18:45 (from Padua).
On the day of the welcome cocktail a private bus service leaving at 17:00 from your hotels in Abano (Hotel Europa, Park Hotel, Excelsior and Ariston Molino) will be organized to take you to La Specola and take you back at 20:00.
Note that Abano is well connected to the centre of Padua by a public bus service (http://www.aps-online.it/pagineint/mobilita_inv/linea_colli.htm). Bus tickets may be bought at newsstands or tobacconists.
