Job Announcement Text:
The Astronomical Observatory of Padova, INAF, invites applications for a postdoctoral position about the `Dynamics of black holes in star clusters, by means of N-body simulations', in the framework of the 2012 FIRB Grant `New perspectives on the violent Universe: unveiling the physics of compact objects with joint observations of gravitational waves and electromagnetic radiation' awarded to Marica Branchesi (University of Urbino), Michela Mapelli (INAF Padova) and Massimiliano Razzano (University of Pisa). The position is for a total of two years (net salary: 2100 euros per month). The position starts in February-March 2014. The successful candidate will work closely with Michela Mapelli and collaborators, to develop a new code to study the dynamics of compact objects in star clusters. This requires to interface a direct N-body code with a stellar evolution code (including different models of stellar winds and accounting for the effect of metallicity). Candidates should have obtained their Ph.D. in astrophysics or a related discipline by the starting date of the position. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: dynamics of collisional systems, stellar evolution and physics of gravitational wave sources. Full details are given at the URL above.
Please send applications by post at the address listed above by January 24, 2014. Applications must include a CV, publication list, statement of research interests, and a complete application form.
Up to two letters of reference can be sent directly to michela.mapelli_at_inaf.it
