HI Absorption in Young Radio Galaxies

M. Orienti, D. Dallacasa, R. Morganti

The onset of radio activity is often thought to be related to an accretion or merger in the host galaxy. Therefore, the galaxy harbouring the radio source is likely to have quite a rich ISM. We present the result of new WSRT observations searching for HI absorption in a sample of High Frequency Peaker radio galaxies. For the sources with positive detection, we discuss the characteristics of the HI profile, and we suggest a model to explain the unexpected low column density observed.
