AGNs in the galaxy formation context

We will show results from a recently developed galaxy formation code, which includes accretion onto supermassive BHs and their feedback on the forming galaxies. The main properties of the galaxy+AGN population can be reproduced, including the down-sizing of faint AGNs and the X-ray background, provided that a suitable modeling of feedback from star formation and quasar-triggered winds is introduced. This allows to put important constraints on the mechanisms that govern galaxy formation.
