The AGN content of the COSMOS

The XMM-Newton wide-field survey in the COSMOS field is expected to be an important step forward in the study of the most obscured component of the XRB. Thanks to the unique multiwavelength datasets available within the COSMOS project, we were able to promptly identify and characterize a large number (~1000) of AGN detected in the first year of the XMM-Newton observations. Here we present the results from our analysis and the implications for our understanding of the BH growth and evolution.
